HUD Invites Comments on Adopting Smoke-Free Policies

HUD is seeking comments on how it can continue to support implementation of smoke-free policies for both public housing and multifamily housing. HUD would like to hear from resident councils, advocacy groups, and housing providers on best practices and practical strategies for implementing smoke-free policies. HUD is also seeking ideas for overcoming potential obstacles to implementing these policies, and advice for supporting housing providers and residents that are transitioning to smoke-free housing. The federal notice also requests input from housing providers that have decided not to implement a smoke-free policy and others who may have been affected by that decision.

HUD plans to use this information to develop additional guidance for owners and managers who wish to implement smoke-free policies. Comments must be received by Nov. 5, 2012.
