GHA Awards Construction Management Contract to The Habitat Company
The Habitat Company has been selected to manage construction services for three housing developments operated by the Gary (Indiana) Housing Authority (GHA). The project, which is part of a major investment in Gary’s public housing communities, began in July 2009.
GHA is investing more than $5.8 million in HUD funds received as part of the federal stimulus program. The overall program includes rehabilitation of 92 housing units on the city’s east side, as well as the demolition of 316 units in a 104-building development on the west side. The Habitat Company’s community development group, which will oversee the projects, has managed the construction of more than $10 million in capital projects for the Atlanta Housing Authority and is currently overseeing the redevelopment of three sites for the Detroit Housing Commission. In addition, the company has managed the development of 7,833 new housing units for the Chicago Housing Authority and more than $708 million in HUD development funds.
